WHAT IS IAWS?
IAWS is the certification seal created by INTERPORC in order to guarantee good practices accomplished in animal welfare, animal health, biosafety, handling and traceability, through all white pig food chain in Spain.
HOW IS IT OBTAINED?
In order to obtain IAWS certification seal it is necessary to accomplish, besides EU legislations in animal welfare, more demanding requisites which signify an extra in areas related to animal health, biosafety, housing, food safety, traceability and environment.

Animal Welfare and Biosafety Technical Regulation INTERPORC ANIMAL WELFARE SPAIN ensures compliance with the “Five Freedoms” of animal welfare established by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE):
- Freedom from hunger, malnutrition and thirst
- Freedom from fear and distress
- Freedom from heat stress or physical discomfort
- Freedom from pain, injury and disease
- Freedom to express normal patterns of behaviour

IAWS certification seal allows the customer to recognize that a product has been produced with the highest guarantees in terms of animal welfare and food safety and it is the most effective way of communicating the commitment of the Spanish white pig sector to quality.
